The “Golden Stupa” at Erdene Zuu Monastery. The Monastery was built by Abai Sain Khan in 1585 and stones from the ruins of Karakorum were used to construct it. The monastery temples’ wall were painted, and the Chinese-style roof was covered with green tiles. The monastery was damaged by warfare in the 1680s, but was rebuilt in the 18th century and by 1872 had a full 62 temples inside. Kharakhorin, Ovorkhangai Province, Mongolia.
